People come to this site at difficult points in their lives, sometimes tired, sometimes distressed, often on a phone. It should be easy to use. Here is honestly where it stands.
What has been done
- Every page works with a keyboard alone, and there is a skip link to jump past the navigation.
- Headings are properly ordered, so a screen reader can move through a page by structure.
- Images that carry meaning have text descriptions. Decorative images are marked so screen readers skip them.
- Text and background colours were chosen to keep contrast readable rather than merely fashionable.
- Form fields have real labels, not placeholder text standing in for them.
- Pages reflow down to small phone screens without sideways scrolling.
- Text can be enlarged in your browser without the layout breaking.
- Nothing flashes, moves on a loop, or plays sound on its own.
What is aimed at
The target is the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, version 2.1, at level AA. That is the standard commonly used for public websites. This site has not been through a formal independent audit, so rather than claim full conformance, I would say: it was built to that standard and tested by hand.
What is known to fall short
I would rather list these than pretend they do not exist.
- Any video added in future will need captions, and until captions are on it, the same content is written out in full underneath.
- Some longer pages have a good deal of text and no audio alternative.
- Third-party tools used for the email list and forms are outside my control, and their accessibility is theirs rather than mine.
If something does not work for you
Please tell me, and please be as specific as you can bear to be - which page, which part, and what happened. Email info@betransformedtherapy.org or call 762-585-4974.
I will reply within five business days. If something on this site is a barrier for you, I will also simply give you the information another way - by phone or by email - rather than leaving you to fight with a web page.
